Kanayo O Kanayo was born on 1st March, 1962. He's an eminent actor, producer and television personality from Imo State. He attended Primary School at St Joseph in Mbaise, Imo State and obtained his first school leaving certificate. After completing his primary education, he moved to Ahiara Boys Secodary School for his secondary education before finishing at Technical College Aba in Abia State, obtaining his WAEC certificate in the process. After his secondary education, he moved to UniLag and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication.
2. His first movie was Nollywood classic, Living In Bondage
After his graduation from the University, Kanayo became a guest artiste in NTA Enugu drama series and started appearing in Soap Operas. In 1992, Kanayo joined the movie industry and became famous for his role as Chief Omego in the Nollywood classic Living In Bondage, a film that brought the movie industry to fame.
3. He is an MFR
He's one of the pioneers of the movie industry and for contributing to the growth of the industry, he was awarded Member of the Federal Republic in 2012 by the Nigerian Government.
4. He got his first AMAA nomination for his role in "Family Battle"
He has appeared in more than two hundred movies including the 90s classics Blood Money, Lost Kingdom, Living in Bondage and the classics of the new millennium like Family Battle, a movie that got him Best Actor accolade at the 2006 African Movie Academy Award, Apaye, a movie that got him nominated for Best Actor at Amma Award in 2013, Across the Niger, Best Actor nomination at the 2008 Amma Award and Up North, a movie starring Adesuwa Etomi and Banky W, as Best Supporting Actor nomination at Amma Awards in 2019 and the sequel to Living in Bondage in 2019.
5. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2018
Kanayo O. Kanayo officially became a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2020. In an interview, he said that his dream was to always become a lawyer.
Apart from becoming a barrister, he also has a degree in Theology.
