If you asked anybody who Adekunle Gold was ten years ago, they would probably tell you that they haven't heard of the name. Fast forward four years later, he had started becoming popular. By 2016, Adekunle Gold is already a household name.

As he celebrates his birthday today, RNB decides to take a look at who Adekunle Gold is, where he's from, music career, and net worth.

Family Background

Though everyone know him by his stage name, Adekunle Gold was born Omoba Adekunle Kosoko. Yes, you heard me right, Kosoko. Sounds familiar? You may ask if he's related to the Nollywood veteran, Jide Kosoko. Well, the answer is yes. Adekunle Gold is his nephew.

Adekunle Gold was born January 28, 1987 to Mr and Mrs Kosoko in Lagos, Nigeria. He is from a riyal family. Hence, the reason why he answers Omoba - a prince. Mind you, Jide Kosoko is also a prince.

Adekunle Gold's parents were Muslims, but his father allowed him to practice whatever religion he wanted, so he became a Christian, alongside his three sisters. He started in a church choir. Sadly, Adekunle Gold lost his younger sister, Busayo to heart related issues, whom he spoke so highly of as the only person that understood him.

School

Adekunle Gold is a graduate of Lagos State Polytechnic. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Arts and Design. He is a painter, sculptor, and a graphics designer. Oh well, a highlife and alternate musician.

Music Career

Yeah! Yeah! We all know that he sang one of the most popular songs in the country 'Sade', but he didn't start from there. First off, Adekunle Gold started composing his songs since when he was 15. The name 'Gold' came from a church sermon, so as you can see, he has always had a thing for God.

Adekunle Gold was part of a defunct group that was formed in 2010 named, "The Bridge Boys". They released three songs namely, "no sleeping on a bicycle", "Norm breaker", and a cover of John Legend's "All of me". Adekunle Gold moved to being a solo artist, and later produced his first work, "Let It Stop". However, the song didn't get much airplay due to lack of promotion.

It wasn't until 2014 that he released the hit song, "Sade", a song that was widely accepted for its unique alternate style. Do you know that the song was a cover of One Direction's "Story of My Life"? The song got him his first major awards as "Best Alternative Song" in the 2015 Headies Award and "Revelation of the Year" at AFRIMA, hosted in the same year. A year later, he was signed to YBNL.



Because of his graphic designing skills, Adekunle Gold helped to design the YBNL logo, which is still used till today. While at YBNL, he released his debut studio album "Gold", preceded by singles like "Orente" and "Pick Up", two songs that his current wife, simi helped out.

He starred in Kunle Afolayan's movie, "The CEO", although it was a minor role.
